The short version
- We don't sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
- We don't train AI models on your music, writing or images.
- We collect the minimum needed to run the platform, that's it.
- You can export or delete your data at any time from your settings.
1. Who's responsible
Artists Rule The Universe ("ARTU") is the data controller for the information you share with us. Contact: info@artistsruletheuniverse.com.
2. What we collect
- Account basics: name, email, password (hashed, never stored in clear text).
- Profile content: anything you publish on your profile (bio, photos, music, gigs, etc.).
- Payment information: processed by Stripe / PayPal. We see the transaction, not your card number.
- Operational data: basic logs needed to keep the service running and secure.
We don't run third-party advertising trackers and we don't sell our member list.
3. Why we use it
- To give you an account and let you run your public profile.
- To process payments to and from you, and pay streaming royalties transparently.
- To send you essential service emails (sign-in, password resets, receipts, important updates).
- To keep the platform secure and prevent abuse.
4. Who we share it with
Only the trusted suppliers needed to run the service, payments (Stripe, PayPal), email delivery (Amazon SES), file storage (Cloudflare R2), authentication (Supabase). Each is bound by contract to use your data only for the service they provide.
We don't share your data with advertisers, data brokers or AI training companies.
5. AI and your work
We don't use your music, lyrics, writing, images or recordings to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's. That's a founding promise of ARTU, not a footnote.
6. Cookies
We use a small number of strictly-necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.
7. Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See and edit your data from your account settings.
- Export your data.
- Delete your account and have your personal data removed (some financial records must be kept by law).
- Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
Under UK and EU data protection law you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK this is the ICO (ico.org.uk).
8. How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. After you delete your account we remove personal data within 30 days, except where we're legally required to keep certain records (e.g. tax/financial records).
9. Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, and the principle of least privilege. No system is perfectly secure, if something happens, we'll tell you promptly.
10. Children
ARTU is not intended for under-16s. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
11. Changes
We'll post any updates here and bump the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be notified by email.
